The 40th Landing Pazhou Legal Salon Concludes Successfully: International Arbitration – Singapore Chapter

On the afternoon of February 21, 2025, the 40th Landing Pazhou Legal Salon officially kicked off, moderated by Chen Zhiyan, head of Landing Guangzhou's Commercial and International Legal Affairs Department. This salon invitedWang Xinyi, an international dispute resolution lawyer from Cai Law Firm, as the keynote speaker, to conduct in-depth case discussions and exchanges with the attendees on the theme of "International Arbitration – Singapore." The sharing session attracted active participation from numerous corporate legal professionals, lawyers, and cross-border business managers.

During the presentation, Attorney Wang Xinyi provided a detailed explanation of the simplified and expedited procedures under the new Singapore arbitration rules, and introduced the differences between the new rules and their practical application. Furthermore, Attorney Wang delved into the specific application scenarios and key operational points of the emergency arbitration procedure and the coordination procedure, comprehensively analyzing the latest developments and practical details of international arbitration in Singapore.

Furthermore, Attorney Wang Xinyi focused on key strategies for enforcing arbitral awards in Singapore, including an overview of recognition and enforcement, grounds for refusal, and case studies. Through several vivid examples, she demonstrated how to apply for recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards in Singapore courts, and elaborated on the specific application of grounds for refusal such as violation of the arbitration clause or the law of the place of arbitration, or violation of the principle of natural justice.

Regarding practical skills and key points of collaboration, Attorney Wang Xinyi shared her experience and techniques for working with Singaporean lawyers, emphasizing specific operational matters such as the selection of arbitrators, the conduct of arbitration proceedings, and the assistance required from the Singaporean courts during the process.

Next, Kong Yunfei, Executive Director of Landing Guangzhou, shared his insights based on Attorney Wang Xinyi's presentation. Attorney Kong emphasized several key points to consider during arbitration. He pointed out that parties should fully consider the legal environment of the arbitration venue, the reputation and professionalism of the arbitration institution, and the impact of arbitration rules on the case handling when choosing an arbitration location and institution. Finally, he also provided specific suggestions and guidance on how to select a suitable arbitrator and how to protect one's rights during the arbitration process.
